Abstract

651,675. Stop-mechanism for yarn spinning machines. MACKIE & SONS, Ltd., J., and MACKIE, J. P. July 29, 1948, Nos. 20275/48 and 19966/49. [Class 120(ii)] In a stop mechanism for spinning machines of the type wherein a lightly loaded detector 9 serves, when released, to introduce a relay action deriving power from a driven member, such as 4,.,of the spinning head to bring into action the parts of the mechanism which stop delivery of the sliver to be spun, the detector 9 is associated with an arm 10 which, on breakage of the yarn, engages the driven member 4 of the head, and the relay action so introduced causes a link 15 to be lifted clear of a stop or catch member 31, the link 15 then causing or permitting a sliver clamping member 16 to operate under the action of a weight 30 to clamp the sliver and positively separate the sliver retaining and feeding rollers 2, 3. In a modification, not shown, the rollers 2, 3, which are smooth, are positively separated by spring action. In a still further modification, not shown, the arm 10 is covered with a layer of frictional material and effects the relay action; on breakage of the yarn, by contact with the roller 6.
