Delivered yarn Y engages an ends down detecting arm 20 and passes over a driving roll 80 to a yarn package 85 driven by a roll 86. The drafting system cam be stopped by a member 70 which is extended by air cylinder 75 to lift magnetically weighted driven rolls 57 and 59 from driving rolls 58 and 60 and so tilt the apron 64 as to grip the sliver S between members 66 and 62 and cause it to be parted by the rolls 55, 56. Yarn delivery is stopped by an air cylinder 94 which tilts a counterweighted arm 88 to disengage the package 85 from the roll 86. An ends down is detected by the arm 24 rotating to the left hand position shown, under the influence of a weight 32 whereupon a mercury switch 34 activates air cylinders 75 and 94. On stopping a rack 42 is drawn to the right by air cylinder 48 where it is latched by lock 50. This rotates a disc 35 through 180‹ anticlockwise forming a loop of yarn between a guide 36 and the arm 20 Fig. 4, not shown, the yarn is also nipped between the arm 20 and a roller 21 On starting up rack 42 is released to move leftwardly under the influence of a spring 49 to feed the yarn end back into the rotor. The starting, stopping and ends down sequences are controlled by the circuit illustrated in Fig. 5, not shown. This circuit comprises a plurality of relays (110), &c. in cascaded relationship with latching in circuits as is described in detail in the Specification.
