Abstract

646,103. Securing sleeves on shafts. BRISTOL AEROPLANE CO., Ltd. May 28, 1948, No. 14508. [Class 80(ii)] A sleeve whose inner surface is outwardly divergent towards its ends is secured to a shaft, tube or the like by two complementary surfaced cuff members pressed axially therein, the surfaces being separated by resilient packing. As shown for securing the inner race of a ball-bearing 2 to a hollow shaft 1 of a helicopter tail rotor drive, said inner race 6 constitutes the sleeve which is separated from the axially split cuffs 7, 8 by frustro-conical rubber rings 9 located by cuff flanges 10. In assembly, the cuffs are pressed axially together whereupon diametrically opposite holes are drilled for fitting rivets 11, those in one cuff being perpendicular to those in the other. A lubricator 14 is provided and the outer race 3 is supported by a carrier 4 on a frame 5. The minimum sleeve bore may be such as to pass over any parts assembled to the shaft. Pins or bolts may replace the rivets.
