Abstract

762,571. Idlers for conveyer belts. MAVOR & COULSON, Ltd. May 18, 1954 [Dec. 8, 1952], No. 31035/52. Class 78 (1). [Also in Group VIII] An idler roller for a conveyer belt consists of annular components held coaxially end-to-end on a rigid hub which is adapted to accommodate bearings for a supporting axle, each of said components being made of deformable resilient material and being hollow to enclose an air space within the roller. As shown, the components are secured on a hub 12 fitted at its ends with ball bearings 16 to receive a fixed axle 15, and each consists of a hollow body of rubber having inner and outer walls 4, 5, end walls 6, 7 and axially extending walls 8 forming six compartments. Each end wall has several air holes 9, there being at least one for each compartment. The components are held together by locking ring nuts 14 screwed on the ends of the liner 12. The walls 4, 5 project beyond the end walls 6, 7 to form projections 10, 11 which at adjoining ends of the components abut to form a seal joint. The walls 8 may be radial and the end walls may be oblique as shown at 61, 71, Fig. 3. In an alternative construction (not shown), each component is made with a transverse wall 6 or 7 at one end only and the open ends of the components so made that they fit against each other and seal their interiors.
