Abstract
641,432. Rod couplings. SOC. NATIONALE DE CONSTRUCTIONS AERONAUTIQUES DU NORD. April 29, 1947, No. 11495. Convention date, Jan. 17. [Class 99(i)] '[Also in Groups XXII and XXXIII] Two members, such as rods 1, 1', Fig. 2, forming the bottom flanges of aircraft spars, are connected together by means of parallel ribs on the contacting faces of the rods, or on jaws 8, 9 between which the ends of the rods are clamped, assembling bolts 12 being passed through holes in the rods, and through the shoes 8, 9 where used, the, diameters of the holes in one of the parts being equal to the diameters of the bolts while, in the other part the diameters are greater than those of the bolts, and the clearance being at least equal to the pitch of the ribs whereby relative adjustment of the members may be effected in two directions or angularly. The ribs may be in zones a, b, c, Fig. 7, the ribs b allowing lateral adjustment and the ribs a, c longitudinal adjustment. In a modification, one rod is made in two parts clamped together by a bolt and formed with eyes to receive a pivot pin. Fig. 11, shows a modification in which two rods 27, 28 are connected by tapered keys 32 driven into coacting keyways in the two parts, assembling bolts 12 being provided as before. In a modification of this form a separate grooved member may be interposed between the two ends of the rods to be joined. The ribs may be semi-circular to provide angular adjustment.
