[Class 100 (ii)] A printing-press which is driven by one motor M, Fig. 6, and is provided with an independent motor 44 for driving the inking or damping rollers of each couple for cleaning purposes, is so constructed that these rollers can only be driven by a motor 44 when tripped away from their printing rollers. The inking and damping rollers are driven by a gearwheel 27, Fig. 5, driven by a gear 26, which may be clutched to a gear 25 driven by a gear 7<SP>1</SP> on the printing-roller, or to a gear 47 driven by an independent motor 44. The sliding gear 26 is actuated by a sliding member 50 with an arm 51 which engages a groove in the gear 26. Teeth 41 on gear 26 can engage teeth 40 on gear 25, or teeth 49 on gear 26 can engage teeth 48 on gear 47. A spring-pressed ball 52 engages recesses in the member 50 to hold the gears in place. A switch 53 is closed'when gear 47 acts as driver. In Fig. 2, the printing-roller 7 is fitted with inking rollers 15, and damping rollers 20 of known form, and these rollers can be tripped away from the roller 7 by the operation of levers 77 and 70 respectively, acting through linkage and cam or eccentric means, and switches 71, 86 are operated from these levers and are closed when the rollers 15, 20 are in active position. If it is attempted to operate the rollers 20 or 15 by the motors 44 when the rollers are not tripped, a relay R3, Fig. 6, is energized and cuts out the current to the motor 44, so that the cleaning operation cannot take place if either the inking or damping rollers are in operative position. In Fig. 6 it is seen that the switches 71, 86 are in parallel with one another and are in series with the switch 53 which is closed when the clutch is moved to gear the motors 44 with the inking and damping rollers. The motor M may also be stopped when a motor 44 is stopped.
