Abstract

636,646. Vices. NICHOLAS, H. G. Dec. 1, 1947, No. 31697. [Class 61 (ii)] A vice for holding parts of watches or clocks comprises a pair of jaw-carrying blocks 7, 8 mounted on a screwed spindle 5 which is rotatable in the limbs 2 of a base member 1 to move the block 7 towards the block 8. The blocks can be rotated together by hand to bring one of a number of pairs of angularly spaced jaws 15 . . . 18 into working position, in which they are held by a spring-pressed ball 19 engaging spaced depressions in the block 8. The blocks are prevented from relative rotation by guide pins 14. The block 8, which is mounted on a plain portion of the spindle 5, abuts a shoulder thereon and is adjustably held up to the ball 19 by a nut 12 and lock-nut 13. Jaws 17 recessed at 22 for poising a balance wheel, and vice jaws 18 are provided. Roller-extracting jaws 15, 16 of two different sizes comprise blades screwed to corresponding faces of the blocks. The base 1 may be held in a vice or in grooves in a bench and is provided with levelling screws 4.
