[Class 80 (iv)] A guard for a band saw comprises a pair of transparent panels A hinged on vertical. rods b and connected together by pivoted links a<1>. The panels are normally held apart against a stop a<2> on the bar b<1> by the action of a spring a<3>, thus allowing an unimpaired view of the saw, but they may be closed upon pressure of the operator's hands. The rods bare adjustably locked in a bracket b<2> by screws b<3>, the bracket carrying in a slot b<4> a rod b5 which engages a bore in the machine head. A head shield is also provided.
