Abstract

658,162. Machinery guards. EVANS, M. C: June 28, 1949, No. 17062. Convention date, July 12, 1948. [Class 80(iv)] A guard for a circular saw comprises a hood member 4 which is adapted to seat on to the surface of the sawbench 1 and completely cover-the saw blade when it is not in use. The hood 4 is pivotally supported at 16 on a saddle 17 suspended on a wire 18 and counterbalanced by a weight 22. A link 26 is pivotally connected at 25 to the hood 4 and also to a fixed member 27 so that as a workpiece is moved forward towards the saw blade it engages .the link 26 to raise the forward end of the hood and then the rear end until the hood lies along the top surface of the work, the rear end of the hood being guided by a slotted link 10 engaging a fixed pin 12. On the workpiece passing beyond the hood the front first falls and then the rear into the original position on the bench 1.
