[Class 80(iv)] [Also in Group VIII] A paper - cutting apparatus of the type comprising a base 1 for supporting the material to be cut and a knife 7 pivoted at one end to the base and cooperating with a fixed blade 9 is characterized by the provision of a clamping member 11 mounted for vertical movement on the base near the knife and adapted to be depressed manually, the clamping member having a guard 10 which protects the fingers from the knife. The clamping member is of L- section, Fig. 3, and is operated against the pressure of springs 15 surrounding guide posts 12. The knife may be locked in the closed position by means of a padlock.
