Abstract

632,120. Exhaust silencers. MAXIM SILENCER CO. Jan. 27, 1948, No. 2453. Convention date, March 12, 1947. [Class 7 (ii)] In an exhaust silencer, especially suitable for submarine engines during surfacing, comprises a divided exhaust pipe 16, 17, 18 means for admitting water through orifices 23 and deflectors 26 which divert entrained water into resonance chambers 14, 15. The deflectors 26 are semiconical and have drainage passages 27, a further drainage slot 22 being provided in the outlet pipe. Vent passages 28, 29 allow the chambers 14, 15 to fill with water when the submarine submerges. The chambers, which are preferably internally enamelled are connected by flanges 30.
