Abstract

627,499. Clutches. ATWOOD, S. B., and ATWOOD, J. T., (trading as ATWOOD VACUUM MACHINE CO.). May 31, 1946, No. 16586. Convention date, Oct. 14, 1942. [Class 80 (ii)] A two-way friction clutch between a driving member 10 and co-axial driven shafts 12 and 13 comprises a single pressure plate 20 arranged between friction discs 15 and 16 on the shafts 12, 13 respectively. The plate 20 is moved in one direction or the other to engage one or other of the clutches by means of a sliding sleeve 53 carrying rollers 56, 57 which engage arm 46 or 47 of a lever 42 to move one of plates 37 or 36 to load springs 38 which act on a plate 34 connected to the pressure plate 20 by bolts 32. In the neutral position shewn the plate 20 is centralised by springs 30, 31. Specification 561,014 is referred to.
