Abstract

464,177. Variable - speed friction gearing. WESSELMANN - BOHRER CO. AKT.-GES. June 8, 1936, No. 16005. Convention date, Feb. 25. [Class 80 (ii)] Driving and driven discs 4, 9 in a drilling or other machine-tool drive are pressed together with a force dependent on the position of bevel rollers 5, 8 which are traversed across the face of the discs along a pair of transverse guideshafts 13 to vary the speed. The rollers are both secured to a shaft 6, carried in a slide 7 screwing on one of the guide-shafts 13, which latter carries a speed-adjusting hand wheel 12. The slide 7 is formed with a lateral plate 20 which slides on rods 18, pivoted to levers 16, formed with toothed segments 15, engaging rack-teeth in thrust-sleeves 3, bearing on the friction-discs 4, 5. The rods 18 carry springs 19, which bear on the plate 20 and transmit to the discs a pressure which increases as the rollers 5, 8 and the plate 20 move towards the lowspeed position shown in Fig. 4.
