Abstract
624,831. Inspection doors. BRITT, J. July 10, 1947, No. 18348. [Class 107] A substantially rectangular inspection door particularly for aircraft comprises one portion mounted in guides and capable of sliding in the plane of the surrounding skin panel from a locked position to a position in which it can be swung outwardly, said sliding movement being prevented by a second pivoted portion, spring urged into the plane of the first panel to abut one edge thereof. In such a door a panel portion 18 is fitted at one end with a cross member 23 engaging guides 17, the opposite end of the door being provided with two-position spring hinge plates 20. When the door is in the locked position shown, one end 22 of the plates 20 engages a hinge pin 16 attached to the door frame 10 and when the door is moved to the right to disengage the member 23 from the guides 17 the opposite ends 21 of plates 20 engage the pivot pin 16, about which the door is then outwardly pivoted. The second door portion 13 is hinged at 12 and is urged by springs 25 into the plane of panel 18 which it abuts at 26. To enable panel 18 to slide, panel 13 is pushed inwards. In an alternative arrangement the hinge plates 20 are dispensed with and the panel 18 is provided with a cross member 23a arranged to pass through slots 17a in the guides 17 to enable the panel to be completely removed.
