Abstract

624,280. Sliding doors; shutters. ADIE, G. M. June 26, 1947, No. 16830. [Class 20 ( iii ) ] A shutter comprises a plurality of flexible sheets 3 which are raised and lowered for opening and closing and which overlap at the vertical edges so that they form a continuous shutter. The sheets may be of asbestos webbing reinforced with metal &c. and formed of a number of strips joined by metal stitches 4. On each side at the lower edge each sheet is fastened to an angle section base plate 9 which may be continuous or in sections to permit of angular movement. Spring pressed levelling shoes 11 which make effective contact with the ground are adjustably attached beneath the plates 9 by bolts 12 which are hidden by cover plates 15. The juxtaposed surfaces of adjacent sheets are protected by contact strips 16 of graphite impregnated wear resisting material, which may also take some of the weight of the shutter. In the construction shown the sheets 3 and strips 16 pass between guide rollers 7 into the casing 2 and over guide rollers 8 suitably recessed to accommodate strips 16. Each sheet 3 then passes to a separate take up roller 6 and each strip 16 to a roller 17. Rollers 6, 17 may be power operated, or roller 17 may be spring controlled &c. The sheets may be operated singly or together, or in two series, i.e. front sheets on upper roller, and rear sheets on lower rollers.
