Abstract

555,283. Gun turrets. BOULTON PAUL AIRCRAFT, Ltd., and EDWARDS, T. Feb. 18, 1939, No. 5445. [Class 92 (i)] The gun elevation slot in the cupola of a gun turret is closed by a system of telescoping plates 2, 4, 5 &c. moving in fixed guides 1 bordering the slot. The plate 2 is fastened at 3 to the turret and bent portions 6 and rolls 7 on the plates serve to guide and limit the movements of the plates over one another. The upper gun-port plate 10 is hinged at 11 to the adjacent plate 5 and a shutter 16 with side plates 15 is pivoted at 18 to the plate 10 to serve as a support and guide for the gun 19, Fig. 5. The upper end of the gun slot may be closed by a strip of flexible material moving in guides in the cupola.
