619,762. Turning. PETERMANN, W. Oct. 18, 1945, No. 27362. Convention date, March 18, 1943. [Class 83 (iii)] Tool-holders.-A tool rest for lathes and like machines in which a cross-slide is employed for adjusting the position of the tool is characterized in that the crossslide is provided with a surface which is inclined from one longitudinal edge towards the other longitudinal edge thereof for supporting a removable part carrying the actual tool, one edge of the removable part being urged into abutment with a stop or stops disposed at or near the lower edge of the inclined surface. The tool 6 is clamped in a removable carrier 5 which is located in the same position on a tool-slide 2 each time after removal by stop pins 13, one of which engages a corner recess in the part 5 and the other bears against a side face. The carrier bears down against the pins by reason of the inclination of the clamping surface 4 formed on the carrier and the top of the slide 2. Bolts 10 secure the carrier, and slots in the latter are sufficiently wide to allow the necessary side movement for location; holes 11, intersecting the slots, are large enough to admit the heads of the bolts to permit rapid changing. In a modification the carrier may be located longitudinally by the clamping bolts and a single stop ledge provided on the lower edge of the slide in place of the stop pins.
