Abstract
667,160. Tool-holders. WILLIAMS & SON, Ltd., H., and WILLIAMS, G. H. T. March 13, 1950, No. 6223/50. Class 83 (iii). A tool-holder for use in securing parting-off and like tools in lathes and similar machinetools having a holder body with a slide therein to receive the tool land a clamping member to hold the tool in position, is characterized in that an inclined surface on the clamping member co-operates with an inclined surface on the holder body and in that the clamping member has a depending lip to engage the face of the tool, whereby as the clamping member is tightened down on to the holder the tool is clamped in position by horizontal and vertical pressure. A parting tool 2 rests in an undercut groove 5 in an inclined channel or slide provided on the side of holder body 1. The tool is clamped by a screw 4 and plate 3, the latter having a lip 6 at the opposite side to overlap the tool 2. A downward extension of the body may be provided along one edge if the base of a tool of greater depth is required to be accommodated.
