Abstract
619,660. Electromagnetic interrupters. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Dec. 19, 1946, No. 37409. Convention date, May 31, 1944. [Class 38(v)] An electromagnetic interrupter with a lowfrequency has a contact member 1 pivoted on a fixed member 2 and controlled by a dead-centre spring 3. The contact 1 lies between two contact springs 4, 5 that are connected by an insulating piece 6. With the parts in the position shown, a circuit is completed through the contacts 1, 4 to the electromagnet 9 which attracts its armature 8 causing a stud 13 to press the springs 4, 5 to the left carrying the arm 1 over its dead-centre position so that it snaps from the contact 4 to the contact 5. This short-circuits the coil and introduces a resistance 14 in its place. The springs 4, 5 then move back under their own bias carrying the arm 1 back over the deadcentre position so that it snaps from 4 to 5 and the cycle recommences. A copper ring 10 may delay the rate of change of flux. The armature may also operate other contact springs.
