Abstract
619,089. Electric motors. BISSET INDUSTRIES, Ltd., and ANDREWS, R. S. LEES-. Nov. 18, 1946, No. 34185. [Class 35] [Also in Group XXXVII] An electromagnetic switch for use as a starter switch for fractional H.P. squirrel-cage motors has an armature 10 biassed by a spring 13 so that a projection 15 normally holds a spring contact 18 out of engagement with a fixed contact 19. The winding 8 is connected in series with the main field winding of the motor and the current through it is at a maximum when current is first switched on. The electromagnet therefore attracts the armature 10 to its pole 5a allowing the contacts 18, 19 to close to complete a circuit to the starter winding of the motor. As the motor speeds up the current through the field winding falls, the armature is released and the circuit to the starter winding broken. The switch is adapted to be mounted within the motor housing the shaft of the motor passing through a tube 22 in the switch carrier plate.
