Abstract

743,178. Electromagnetic switches. TELEMECANIQUE ELECTRIQUE. May 21, 1952 [Sept. 19, 1951], No. 12916/52. Class 38(5) The movable contact 9 of a contactor is mounted on a pivoted member 8 which lies in the trough of a U-shaped magnetic member 11 and the current flowing through the member 8 creates a magnetic field in the member 11 which tends to reinforce the pressure between the contacts R, 9 and to counteract the electrodynamic force which, due to the current nowing in a loop, tends to separate the contacts. In the form shown the invention is applied to a contactor having an operating magnet 15 which, when energized. attracts an armature 16 carried by a suaft 14 which carries the member 11. The member 8 is pivoted at 10 to the member 11 and is acted on by a spring 17 through a magnetic plate 20 which acts as armature to the magnet 11. Further rotation of the shaft 14 after the contacts engage causes the armature 20 to move slightly away from the magnet 11 and the spring 17 to be compressed. In a modification, Figs. 4, 5 (not shown). the armature 20 is dispensed with. and the flux between the arms of the U-shaped member 11 by interacting with the current in the member 8 tends to press the contacts together.
