Abstract
618,114. Transformers and inductances. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Oct. 21, 1946, No. 31261. Convention date, Oct. 22, 1945. [Class 38 (ii)] A transformer or inductance core is made from laminations of E and I shape cut from a material having a most favourable magnetic direction, a part of which, in which the flux is at an angle to that direction having a greater cross-sectional area than a part in which the flux is parallel to that direction. A single-phase shell-type core comprises a stack of layers of E and I-shaped laminations 1, 2, the positions of which are reversed in alternate layers, the grain direction being as shown by the arrows. The flux in the yokes, although parallel to the grain in the I laminations 1 is perpendicular to the grain in yoke 7 of the E laminations, and the widths of parts 1 and 7 are intermediate the widths of the central and outer links. A three-legged, three-phase core is referred to. The core proportions are given in terms of A and B.
