[Class 44] [Also in Group XXVIII] A band clip consists of a split band 1 with inturned edges 3 and provided at its ends with attachment members 4 carrying lugs 5 through which pass tightening bolts 6, and also of a number of segmental parts 14, Fig. 3, carried by the band but slidable relative to it. Each segment has two axially-spaced rows of fingers 15 with radially inwardlydirected edges 16, the fingers being formed by making cuts 19 in the sheet metal part before it is shaped; an additional cut 20 is made at one or both ends so as to provide a resilient portion 21 which will space the segment slightly from the one adjacent before the bolts are tightened. Contraction of the band during tightening produces a toggle action which causes the finger portions 16 to be forced tightly into engagement with the members, such as the pipe flanges shown, to be joined. Fig. 5 shows a modification in which the band 23 is of inverted U-section and the segments 14 are replaced by a W-section inner band welded at its edges 24 to the band 23. Cuts are made in the inner band so that the portion 25 will be made up of resilient fingers as above.
