Abstract

820,884. Pipe joints. TALBOT-STEAD TUBE CO. Ltd. Feb. 2, 1956 [Feb. 10, 1955], No. 3974/55. Class 99(1). The conoidal end faces 11 of split collars 10 engaging radially with locating means on the ends of pipes 5 are engaged by corresponding faces on a pair of clamping members 12, the collars transmitting axial force to the pipes to urge the pipe ends together upon tightening of the members. As shown in Fig. 1, the collars are received in circumferential grooves 9 formed in the metal casing 8 of a composite pipe as described in Specification 820,883, the ends of the pipes 5 being provided with complementary conoidal or part-spherical faces 6. Alternatively, ribs formed or secured to the pipes engage in complementary recesses in the collars 10, or the collars seat on and behind flanges on the pipes, or the pipes have circumferentially spaced projections or recesses which are engaged by complementary recesses or projections on the collars. In a modofication, the annular clamping members 15, Fig. 3, are recessed at 16 and provided with holes for bolts 17. A jointing washer may be interposed between the surfaces 6 of the pipes, or those surfaces are coated with jointing compound or adhesive cement.
