Abstract

610,147. Suction cleaners. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd., and BOCOCK, W. A. March 28, 1946, No. 9669. [Class 8 (i)] Nozzle height adjustment in a suction cleaner comprising an undercarriage consisting of lever sections 2, 3 pivoted together at their adjacent ends, and pivoted to the cleaner body to which the nozzle is secured at points between their ends and also carrying supporting wheels 4 is effected by adjustment of the levers about their pivotal connections, either of which are sufficiently loose to allow of such movement, in response to vertical movement of the cleaner body and nozzle, the latter being held in its adjusted position by a releasable ratchet and pawl 9, 10 carried by the body and undercarriage respectively. In operation, the body 1 is pressed down by the operator against the action of a spring 8 until the nozzle makes an air seal with the floor covering. This is denoted by a pitch change of the note emitted by the motor. Specification 525,889 is referred to.
