Abstract

722,700. Suction cleaners. FILLERY, G. T. Feb. 29, 1952. No. 27327/53. Divided out of 722,602. Class 8 (1). [Also in Group XXIII] In a combined suction-cleaning and floorpolishing apparatus comprising an electric motor 11 driving a suction fan 13 carried in a casing 10, a polishing assembly 23 movably carried by the casing, manual or foot actuated means to retract the polishing assembly from an on-the-floor position (when the suction nozzle 17 is in an off-the-floor position) to an off-the-floor position within the casing (when the suction nozzle is in an on-the-floor position), and one or more wheels 22 rotatably mounted on the casing at the rear of the polishing assembly to support the casing from the floor, the polishing assembly and the wheel(s) are mechanically interconnected with said manually actuated control means so that when the means is actuated to bring the assembly to the on-thefloor position the wheel(s) are retracted and vice versa. As described in Specification 722,602 the polishing assembly 23 is supported from the casing 10 by links 27 and the assembly is moved against the force of springs 35 by a crank pin 34 on a spindle 33 rotated by the lever 48 forming the manual control means. The wheels 22 are carried by a frame 38 pivoted to the casing 10 at 40 and urged down against a stop 46 by springs 41. The frame 38 is formed with a cam surface 43 which co-acts with a follower 44 secured to the crank 34 in such a way that when the spindle 33 is rotated' to lower the polishing assembly, the wheels 22 are raised, and vice versa. The stop 46 is adjustable, as described in Specification 722,687.
