Abstract

812,886. Suction cleaners. HOOVER Ltd. Jan. 29, 1958 [Feb. 14, 1957 ; April 16, 1957], No. 3001/58. Class 8(1). The weight of the rear end of the casing 10 of a motor fan suction cleaner of the inside bag type having a pair of front wheels 11 and a suction hose 17 (not shown), connected to a socket 15 and by which the cleaner may be pulled over the floor 43 is at least partially supported by a cushion of air 42 provided between the floor 43 and an apertured reentrant portion of a skid 38 having a surrounding rim 39 which restricts escape of air therebeneath. As shown the cushion spaces 42 is connected to the suction fan exhaust through an aperture 45 of a vertical bulkhead 24 and a vertical tube 41 discharging into a space 40 formed between the casing bottom and the skid 38 and thence through apertures 44. A blowing hose connection 16 is normally closed by a spring-biassed valve plate 47 which on introduction of the hose is moved to effect closure of the tube 41. An auxiliary fan may supply pressure air to the space 42.
