Abstract
610,098. Centrifugal pumps. PULSOMETER ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and PRICE, A. V. March 28, 1946, No. 9584. [Class 110 (i)] A self-priming centrifugal pump comprises an impeller C having one or more shrouds C<1>, C2 disposed in an impeller chamber A to the eye B<2> of which leads the suction passage B and a delivery chamber A<1> into which the pump normally delivers liquid through the main volute A<2> having its exit A<4> at a point above the impeller axis. A priming liquid passage has its opening A<5> in the delivery chamber A<1> below the exit A<4> and its opening A' in the impeller chamber A between the impeller axis and the impeller periphery and adjacent to a series of apertures C<4> in the shroud C2. During the priming operation liquid from the chamber A<1> flows through the priming liquid passage and holes C<4> into the impeller and is then discharged through the main volute A<2> without passing through the eye B<2>. During normal operation, the priming liquid passage serves as a second delivery volute A<3>.
