Class 110(1) In a multi-stage, self-priming, centrifugal pump - having -full admission centrifugal impellers and a partial admission priming stage, the extraction of gases is effected by the priming stage directly at the eye of the first impeller. In the pump shown in Fig. 4, the priming pump 6 draws gas, through a passage 5, from an annular channel 4 adjacent the inlet edges of the vanes of the first impeller 2. The pump 6 also draws off, through a pipe 11, gas which separates out in a tank 10 which is connected in the suction pipe 9. The impeller 2 and the pump 6 both discharge into a chamber 7 leading to the next impeller 8. The gas may be discharged separately. Fig. 3 shows an embodiment in which the tank 10 is omitted and the impeller 2 is fully shrouded. The channel 4 may, as shown, extend around the upper part only of the impeller eye.
