Abstract
609,711. Luminescent materials. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Aug. 11, 1944, No. 15312. Convention date, Aug. 14, 1943. [Class 39 (i)] Fluorescent material is prepared from an alkaline earth metal phosphate containing 1 to 5 per cent manganese and 2 to 10 per cent cerium, by heating the powdered phosphate in a reducing atmosphere to a temperature of 1000-1200‹ C. In one particular example a cerium activated phosphate prepared as described in U.S.A. Specification 2,306,567 is powdered and suspended in a solution of magnesium nitrate or phosphate and evaporated to dryness. The resulting powder is then fired in a moist reducing atmosphere of hydrogen at a temperature of 1000‹ to 1200‹ C.
