Abstract
749,393. Luminescent materials. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Sept. 23, 1954 [Sept. 24, 1953], No. 26387/53. Class 39 (1). Luminescent material consists of crystalline magnesium oxide containing in the crystal structure both chromium as an activator and at least one of lithium, sodium, potassium and thallium as an intensifier of the luminescence. The ratio of chromium atoms to magnesium atoms is from 0.01-1, preferably 0.05-0.5, per cent, and the ratio of the additional metal atoms to magnesium atoms is preferably 0.1-10 per cent. The material can be prepared by heating a mixture of the oxides, or compounds forming the oxides on heating, at a temperature in the range of 800-1200‹ C. in air for 1 hour or more.
