Abstract
558,213. Luminescent materials. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. July 16, 1942, No. 9884. Convention date, July 18, 1941. [Class 39 (i)] Luminescent material comprises zinc oxide which has been heated at about 1000‹ C. in hydrogen and then cooled rapidly in the atmosphere. The phosphor may be suspended in cellulose lacquer to prepare paints. As an activator may be used about 1 per cent of bismuth sulphate, oxide or nitrate or metallic bismuth ; or sodium sulphate or chloride, manganese dioxide or zinc dust may serve. The phosphor is responsive to the near U.V., i.e. from 3000-4000‹ A.
