Abstract
608,043. Road rollers. PEDERSHAAB MASKINFABRIK AKTIESELSKABET. Aug. 14, 1945, Nos. 20932 and 20933. Convention dates, Dec. 14, 1943 and July 15, 1944. [Class 6(i)] In a road roller having at least one vibration roller, and provided with vibrating mechanism. and at least one roller for existing continuous rolling pressure on the surface to be rolled the vibration roller is so mounted that it vibrates independently in relation to the road roller framing. As shown applied to a motor driven roller, a roller 10 is freely mounted on a shaft 15 having an eccentrically placed centrifugal mass driven by a pulley 17 and belting from the motor 8. The roller 10 is mounted by journal bearings 19 on springs 12, which prevent the transmission of vibration to the roller frame, and are fitted in a box 13 which may be adjustable to vary the position of the roller 10. In a modification the springs may comprise air cushions or rubber tubes and may be mounted directly on the road roller framing. The roller 10 may be journalled eccentrically on a shaft having an eccentrically placed centrifugal mass so that the roller assembly is dynamically balanced. In this case the shaft may be fitted directly on the road roller frame or one side may be fixed and the other provided with a resilient connection such as a rubber body secured to the road roller frame or to a frame hinged to the latter. In another modification a wheel is mounted by ball bearings to a disc fitted on each side of the road roller frame, the said wheel having a pneumatic tyre which bears on the inside of the roller 10 thus providing a resilient attachment to the road roller frame, the shaft 15 having no direct connection to said framework. The vibration roller may be applied to any existing roller and more than one may be fitted. In existing rollers having three rollers one of the said rollers may be converted by incorporating the vibrator mechanism. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also a construction in which the vibrating roller is carried by a frame pivoted at one end to the main frame. The free end of the pivoted frame may, when desired, be held by a latch when 'the machine is in operation. The pivoted frame is connected by a cord to an instrument which records unevennesses of the road bed, the latch being disengaged when such recordings are taken. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
