605,845. Sampling liquids. LEWIS, G. E. H. Feb. 26, 1946, No. 6033. [Class 106(v)] Apparatus for taking a sample of boilerfeed water, without loss of steam and consequent inaccuracy in the amount of reagent indicated as necessary for the feed water treatment, comprises a closed body 3 which is connected to the boiler by a valve 14, is filled when both the valve 14 and a rotary sleeve valve 1 are open, and is drained, after allowing the sample to cool, by opening the valve 12. A vent cock 11 is operated manually, or automatically, in which latter case it closes against internal pressure, but admits air to the body 3 as cooling takes place. The sleeve valve 1 is rotatable on a tube 2 by means of a handle 10, a pin and inclined slot connection 1a, 7 between the sleeve and tube ensuring that the sleeve abuts against a collar 2a when the valve is moved to the closed position, to form a pressure-tight joint. Leakage is prevented by packing 8, 9 and grooves 1b, 2b. Reagent is added to the feed water by an injector 4, 5, or by connecting a force pump to the valve 5.
