Abstract
619,361. Rotating valves on seats. RICARDO, H. R., and PEARSON, H. E. Dec. 4, 1946, No. 35917. [Class 135] A valve, suitable for use in gas liquefying apparatus, comprises a chamber A with inlet and outlet passages, in one of which a spring-loaded needle valve B seats,. and a valve stem C enclosed in a tubular casing D provided at its upper. end with a conical seating socket G<1> for a member H<1> which is connected to the upper end of the valve stem and also carries a worm wheel K by which it and the valve can be rotated to keep the latter free from ice, &c. The upper part of casing D is clamped to a fixed plate F by screwed collars F<1>, F<2>, and a thrust bearing J is inserted between the rotary member H<1> and its socket G<1>. Worm K is driven continuously or intermittently by a pinion K<1>. The valve stem carries at its upper end a collar C<1> which is connected by bellows N, O, to a tube L screwed on to member H<1>, the bellows serving as a gas-proof seal and also to transmit the rotary motion to the valve stem. The upper end of a valve loading spring P presses on an abutment provided with lugs Q<1> which are slidable in slots in tube L, and the loading force exerted by the spring can be adjusted by screwing down a collar L<3> against which the lugs Q<1> abut. The valve is opened by fluid pressure acting on it.
