Abstract

594,609. Steadying loads suspended from aircraft. BLACKBURN AIRCRAFT, Ltd., and THARRATT, A. May 30, 1945, No. 13590. [Class 78(iv)] [Also in Group XXI] Mechanism for adjusting a pair 15 and a second pair 24 of retaining crutches for temporarily attaching articles to aircraft comprises an operating shaft 1 which is connected to. a differential gearing 2 which in turn drives two shafts 6, 7, connected to the adjusting means of the crutches. By this means the two shafts may be simultaneously rotated in either direction but when one pair is arrested, as for instance when it engages the load, all the drive is taken to the shaft of the other pair. The crutches 15, 24, shown are constructed as in Specification 594,608, [Group XXI], each consisting of a pair of members which are open and closed by nuts on a threaded shaft 10 or-19. These shafts are geared to the hollow shafts 6, 7, leading to the differential 3. Thus when the shaft 1 is rotated by a handle the shafts 6, 7, will both move but when one is arrested the bevel gears 3 of the differential will rotate and carry all the drive to the other shaft.
