Abstract
593,936. Electric heating. SAYER, C. M., and METROPOLITAN - VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. June 20, 1945, No. 15729. [Class 39 (iii)] [Also in Groups VIII and XXXVI] A notched electrically-heated blade for stripping cable ends has its cross-section reduced or constricted in the vicinity of the notch so as to intensify the heating effect at the notch. The blade 1, Fig. 5, has sides 2, 3 for connection to current-supply members and has independent slits.or notches 23, 24 on both sides of the cable notch 25 which may be V- shaped or semi-circular. The blade may be reduced in thickness in the vicinity of notch 25 and have one or more reinforcing members rigidly fixed to the blade, these members being of insulating material or being separated from the blade by insulation such as mica, glass or a vitreous or oxidized coating. The sides 2, 3. Figs. 1, 2, are secured to conductor bars 4, 5, the former connected direct to a terminal 7 and the latter carrying a contact 11 depressed by push bars 15 to engage a contact 10 carried by the other terminal 8. A shunt resistance 32 may provide a lower heat when the contacts 10, 11 are open, for use with thermoplastic coverings. An adjustable stop bar 29 with thumb screw 30 is provided. The cable is pressed into the notch by a pivoted presser 27 which may clear away from the hot blade any adherent insulation. For confined spaces, an extended head may be provided by lengthening the sides 2, 3 and reducing the length of the part 1, the slots 24 being in the sides 2, 3.
