717,185. Rocket motors. S.E.R.A.M. SOC. D'ETUDES DE RECHERCHES ET D'APPLICATIONS MECHANIQUES. March 27, 1952 [April 10, 1951], No. 7882/52. Class 9(2) Rocket motor comprises a cylindrical casing 2 containing a propellant 1 of cruciform cross-section held in position by wedges 3, 3<SP>1</SP> and bearing against an ignition device 4 placed at the end of the casing remote from the nozzle. The device 4 consists of a cup-shaped metal member 5 forced into a cover 7 having a bent-over edge 8 which is forced into the casing, thus forming an obturator for the propellent gases. The cup 5, which bears against the propellant, is provided with flash-holes 6, 6<SP>1</SP>, 6<SP>11</SP>, 6<SP>111</SP> aligned with the recesses in the propellant. Within the device 4 are two electric igniters 9, 9<SP>1</SP> embedded in an ignition charge filling the device. A metal bracket 10 welded to the cup 5 carries two tubes 12, 12<SP>1</SP> through which the lead wires 13, 13<SP>1</SP> are carried to openings in the bottom of the cup and thence through the casing 2. The flash holes are covered by a varnished gauze 14 to render the device waterproof. Alternatively to the flash-holes fracture lines may be provided, adapted to rupture under the pressure of the gases from the ignition charge.
