Abstract

590,517. Rotary compressors. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. Dec. 22, 1944, No. 25760. Convention date, July 30, 1943. [Class 110 (ii)] A Roots' blower is designed to compress gas trapped between lobes 8, 12 and a wall 14 to a pressure higher than the pressure of the gas in the delivery 3, and suddenly release the trapped gas to temporarily raise the pressure in 3 and prevent back-surging of gas into the compressor. The rotors may run with very fine clearances between them and between each rotor and its wall. A relief channel 18 may be provided to prevent excessive compression of the trapped gas, and its length may be varied to vary the compression ratio. A channel 19 extends along a portion of the wall 14 to allow for slight inward flexing of the wall due to temperature differences between the parts 17 and 19.
