Abstract
587,849. Roots' blowers. HOWARD, A. C. Jan. 23, 1945, No. 1774. [Class 110 (ii)] In a pump, compressor or motor of the Roots' blower type, comprising two crescent-shaped rotors each consisting of two cylindrical sectors 25, 26 of different diameters united by recesses 31, the two sectors are detachably secured together and are so constructed that each rotor is approximately in dynamical balance. The parts 25 and 26 are held together and on the shaft 17 by bolts 27 engaging in tapped holes 29. A key 30 is fitted. The part 25 may be made of a lighter material than the part 26 and may be hollow, as shown, preferably with an internal web 32. The wearing surface of a sector may be protected by a layer of harderwearing material, which may be electrodeposited. Sealing strips may be recessed in the sides of the sectors. The recesses 31, which provide clearance for the tips of the coacting rotors, are preferably of concave cylindrical curvature and may be left unmachined. A relief port provided with a spring-loaded valve, not shown, communicates the outlet chamber 23 with the inlet chamber 21.
