Abstract

586,890. Rulers. SHAW, W., and SWAN, J. M. Nov. 20, 1944, No. 22990. [Class 97 (iii)] A hollow, many-sided ruler 5, with flat sides 6, of equal width running the whole length of the ruler, is provided with detachable plugs 7, of the same size and shape as the ends of the ruler to close the ends, or has closed ends and is separated in the middle, the inside being adapted for carrying pens and pencils. The plugs 7 have projections 13 and the ruler complementary recesses 14 to ensure alignment of the graduated sides 6. In use the lines are drawn resting the pen or pencil against a vertical side 6, those after the first, after rolling the ruler on to the succeeding side. When the ruler is made in two parts with closed ends a medial spigot and socket joint is provided.
