585,695. Centrifugal separators. AIREQUIPEMENT. Dec. 17, 1941, No. 19239/46. Convention date, April 30, 1940. Divided out of 585,676. [Class 23] A device for separating oil or other liquid particles from air or other gas comprises a cylindrical chamber 1 in which is arranged a rotatable hollow cylindrical body 2 adapted to receive impure air at one end and to discharge purified air at the other end, the hollow body being provided with internal radial webs 56 and its side wall being pierced with holes 59 opening into an external helical groove 61 which acts as a screw conveyer to return separated oil to a collecting tank. The device may be constructed as an independent unit including its own prime mover or it may form an air relief for the crankcase of an I.C. engine. In the latter event the chamber 1 is mounted in the crankcase and the rotatable body is driven through bevel gearing 50, 51 from the crankshaft. The helical groove returns oil to the crankcase through a channel 10.
