[Class 110 (ii)] The peripheries of the threads are tapered at a, b, opening towards the pressure side of the pump, so that oil under pressure is forced in between the peripheries and the casing bore. Oil passes through the bore h into the thrust-bearing chamber i and is discharged along the bearings G, F, to the suction chamber. Recesses d ... g are cut in the bearings on one side of each so that the oil pressure along the surface 1-3 is represented by a triangle 1, 2, 3, while on the opposite side the pressure is represented by a triangle 5, 6, 7. The excess pressure equal to area 2, 3, 4, counteracts a lateral thrust on the spindle S<2>. In the pump shown in Fig. 8 the spindle B is driven from the spindle A by the meshing helical threads. To prevent axial movement of the spindle B, two collars q cooperate with a conical collar r on the spindle A. The tapered parts a, b, may be arranged on both edges of the peripheries of the threads, for reverse running.
