538,044. Gas compressors, oil separators. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. April 17, 1940, No. 6931. Convention date, April 19, 1939. [Class 8 (i)] [Also in Group XXXIV] The crankcase of a compressor having splash lubrication is connected with the inlet pipe 13, Fig. 1, through the gas space of an oil separator or separators 14, 15 suction being maintained by a Venturi contraction 18 in the inlet pipe, which pipe delivers to an inlet space 20 from which surplus oil falls into the crankcase ; oil from the separator is led back to the crankcase by a pipe 23. Fig. 2 shows a construction in which counterweight portions of the cranks 28 dip into the oil, which is led back to the crankcase by a port 21<SP>1</SP> from the lower portion of the inlet chamber 20<SP>1</SP> ; a single separating chamber 14<SP>1</SP> is provided around the shaft bearing, separated from the crankcase by a plate 44 having a gas inlet 16<SP>1</SP> from the crankcase, and an oil opening to the crankcase at the lower end ; a passage 41 leads from the separator chamber to the Venturi contraction in the inlet pipe. The shaft is lubricated through holes 47, 48 from the oil separator. Specification 240,773, [Class 8 (i)], is referred to.
