[Class 40 (i)] For measurement of the speed of an engine having as an essential feature a gear-wheel 5, a fixed polepiece 1 having a winding 2 and a polarizing magnet 6 embedded therein, has teeth 4 adapted to register with cogs of the gear-wheel 5, the whole comprising an A.C. generator whose output is measured by the meter 10 which may be provided with adjustable compensating means to compensate for variations such as the strength of the permanent magnet 6.
