[Class 35] [Also in Group XXXVIII] A permanent magnet or inductor member rotating yith a part, the speed of which is to be indicated or recorded, co-operates with stationary angularly spaced coils whereby interrupted E.M.F.s are produced and are applied to a frequency responsive device, the number of coils in circuit being variable according to the range of speed to be measured to bring the frequency within a comparatively limited range. As shown, a frequency indicator or recorder 6, which may be calibrated for speed, is fed through a thyratron circuit by a selected number of coils 3 co-operating with a permanent magnet 2 carried by the rotor 1 of a gas turbine.
