Abstract

582,376. Joint-making packing. FORD MOTOR CO., Ltd. Sept. 27, 1944, No. 18483. Convention date, May 17,1943. [Class 122 (iii)] A cylinder head gasket comprises a corrugated metal ring 20 having a depending flange 19. The gasket is mounted on a recess 22 in the cylinder body between the wall thereof and a flange 13 on the cylinder liner ; the arrangement being such that when the cylinder head is secured in position, the corrugations are flattened to expand the flange 19 for close engagement with the wall of recess 22, and direct contact between the head and cylinder block is effected elsewhere. Apertures in the block, other than the cylinders, e.g., oil lines, are gasketted by means of rubber rings 29 surrounding nipples 27 engaging counterbores in the block and head.
