Abstract

577,547. Sheet metal beams &c. POLDEN, S. G., and AYLAND, L. F. Dec. 24, 1943, No. 21619. [Class 20 (ii)] A joist, beam, girder &c. is composed of two angle or channel &c. sheet metal sections secured together back to back so as to permit nails &c. for securing members to the girder &c. to be driven between the mutually abutting parts of the sections so as to be gripped thereby. The joist &c. may consist of two channel sections 10, Fig. 2, secured at the mid-line of their depth by spot-welding or rivets &c. 11. Apertures 15 are provided for the passage of gas or other service pipes. The channel sections have rounded corners to provide converging guiding surfaces 14 for the nails securing boarding, &c. to the joists. Roof trusses may be built up by securing two T-sections 16, Fig. 3, constructed as above described, to each other and to an I-section 10, the webs of one T- bar engaging between the angle sections composing the web of the other T-bar and being secured thereto by a bolt &c. 19, whilst the webs of both T-bars engage between and are secured as by bolts 18 to the channel sections composing the web of the member 10. The sections described in the Specification include beams &c. in which either or both of the channel-sections composing the beam has or have one flange extended downwardly parallel to the web.
