601,993. Aircraft and ships framework. MENDHAM, J. B., and MENDHAM, C. C. .Tune 12, 1945, No. 14813. [Classes 4 and 113 (ii)] [Also in Group X] A composite beam, column or other structural or frame member stated to be applicable to civil engineering works, ship or boat structures, aircraft framings &c., comprises two or more elements including at least one standard metal section which is a light angle or channel section providing web and flange portions of the structural member, and which is pre-formed along the flanges with bolt holes and along the web with at least three rows of bolt holes, together with larger holes appropriate for ventilation, lightening or for the passage of service cables, pipes, &c. The sections may be channels 1, Figs. 1, 2, bolted together back to back and provided with wooden nailing strips 2. Angle brackets 6 which are slotted at 7<SP>1</SP> may be bolted to the channel webs for the connection of transverse members. Plates 12, Figs. 10, 11 may be interposed between the channels for stiffening purposes, or may be interposed between sections 11, Fig. 13 to give a greater depth of beam. The sections may be assembled in various ways and when spaced apart to compose a hollow structural member, the hollow may be fillted with concrete. A boat framing may comprise a keel composed of the specified channels 20, Fig. 8 (Prov.), with wooden strips 8 and curved rib and deck beams of single channels with wooden strips 8.
