Abstract
573,446. Girders and beams. ABRAM, W. H. H. Dec. 10, 1943, No. 20717. [Classes 20 (ii) and 20 (iv)] A beam or stanchion for use in building construction comprises two outwardly facing channels 1 containing strips of wood or composition 3 and connected by spacing members 2 secured to the webs by welding. The strips 3 are of trapezoidal section and the channel sides are pressed against them. The beams are connected together and to window and door frames 6, 7, respectively by tie rods 4 welded to the webs and angle members 5 secured to the ends of the beams and panels secured to one or both faces make shuttering for concrete filling. The beams are laid horizontally for floors and ceilings. When used for roofs the wood &c. filling in the upper channel is omitted and the whole beam covered in concrete &c.
